Hollow cathode lamps are metal-vapor discharge lamps specifically developed for atomic absorption spectroscopy. These are available as single-element lamps in 66 types including Ag, Al and As; and as multi-element lamps in 7 types such as Na-K and Ca-Mg.
Atomic absorption analysis is used for highly accurate measurement of metals present in a material. Hollow Cathode Lamps are used as a metal vapor discharge light source in such atomic absorption analysis. Analysis requires a special lamp for each element to be measured and Hamamatsu offers such lamps for 66 elements including silver, aluminum and arsenic. In addition to the L233 which is used for normal atomic absorption analysis, the available product range includes the L733 Series (38mm dia. type), and the L2433 Series giant-pulse Hollow Cathode Lamp (38mm dia. type), intended for use in atomic absorption analysis which employs the S-H type background correction method.
