Together with the Photonics Laser Nuclear Fusion Research Center at Osaka University (current name: Institute of Laser Engineering Osaka University), Hamamatsu Photonics is implementing the NEDO Key Technology Research Promotion project, and has developed a high-power semiconductor laser excitation all-solid-state laser system with a peak output of 250 megawatts / 5 joules, the largest in the world, a pulse width of 20 nanoseconds, and a repetition of 10 hertz. This high peak power all-solid-state laser system was developed with industrial applications in mind, and by using the high-power semiconductor laser module developed by Hamamatsu Photonics that offers the world's largest peak power of 290 kilowatts, we have achieved a compact system tailored to industrial applications that features high power and repetition, as well as high density. This system provides the key to simultaneously solving the many problems inherent in the flash lamp excitation lasers that are coming into wider use in the industrial sector, such as repetition, reliability, safety, lamp service life and cost performance.
